Seaports Shut as Maritime Workers Begin Nationwide Strike

Seaports Shut as Maritime Workers Begin Nationwide Strike

The Maritime Workers Union said it had concluded plans to commence strike today in all the seaports across the country.

The strike action comes after the expiration on Tuesday of the two-week ultimatum given to the Federal Government by the union to compel International Oil Companies in the country to pay wages owed dockworkers

The President General, MWUN, Mr Adewale Adeyanju, said the IOCs had refused to engage the union on the issue, thereby leaving it with no option than to commence strike.

Previously, the MWUN had threatened to shut down seaports over alleged refusal of IOCs to allow stevedoring workers employed by the Nigerian Ports Authority entrance into their terminals, and for owing the dockworkers backlog of wages.

From Adeyanju Statement, “After the meeting on Tuesday, it was agreed that the strike will commence this morning in all the seaports. And all members have been fully mobilized

Also, Several efforts made for the IOCs to see reason including the stakeholders meeting organized by the NPA fell on deaf ears.

All affected dockworkers are suffering, even Some have even passed on prematurely due to economic hardship, while some have been made to become destitute.

The union cannot continue to fold arms and watch members die a premature death because of the nonchalant attitude of the IOCs management towards the welfare of our members”

I’ll end Apapa gridlock within my first 60 days in office –Sanwo-Olu

The Lagos State governor-elect, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said he will end the protracted gridlock in Apapa area of the state within the first 60 days of his administration.

He said not minding the politics involved, he would rid the area of all the trailers whose operations have been responsible for the intractable gridlock.

Sanwo-Olu said this on Saturday during an interactive session with his classmates at the Executive Master of Business Administration class, University of Lagos, 1998/2000 set.

One of the questions was what he would do about the trailers causing the gridlock in Apapa.

He said, “The Apapa trailer issue; it’s a campaign issue; it’s very serious; I’m going to take it very seriously.

“I believe that it is something that we are going to solve in the first 60 days of our government. Whatever is going to be required of us, we will take them out”

The governor-elect, however, said as a long-term solution, his administration would develop the Badagry Port, to diffuse the pressure on the Apapa Port.

Top three warehouse management problems and solutions

Top three warehouse management problems and solutions

Top three warehouse management problems and solutions

Warehouse management is regularly associated with 6 basic tenets: accuracy, cost control, efficiency, cleanliness, safety and security, but the underlying processes are complex. which brings us to  major problems for warehouse managers across industries.

Warehouse managers face the challenges of maximizing performance while balancing trade-offs under uncertain conditions.

Redundant Processes
Traditionally, warehouse employees have been likely to handle a product several times due to the nature of the warehousing process. This tendency is in warehouses where warehouse workers pass the same ticket through multiple hands-which are time-consuming and increase the cost of labor. Using bar-code technology streamlines the warehousing process, removing redundant processes while maximizing resource utilization

Poor Facility Layout
Efficient use of space is a critical success factor in warehousing. Inadequate storage space and inefficient use of available storage are common problems in warehouses with poor facility layout

The complementary solution is to ensure that the highest-selling inventory is easily accessible by placing it at the most accessible point.

Inaccurate Inventory
Accuracy and efficiency in handling inventory in warehousing go hand in hand. Inaccurate inventory causes problems such as maintaining improper stock levels and buildups of obsolete inventory

Automated systems offer real-time, accurate information about stock levels and composition. The technology employed in managing inventory in a warehouse is critical to success because the value of the automated system is just as good as the quality of the system itself
